Cultural heritage is not only monuments and collections of objects but also all living traditions transmitted by our ancestors: oral expressions, including language, performing arts, social practices, rites and parties, knowledge and practices concerning nature and the universe , traditional crafts.

This intangible cultural heritage is fundamental in maintaining cultural diversity in the face of globalization and its understanding helps intercultural dialogue and encourages mutual respect for different ways of living. Its importance does not lie in the cultural event itself, but in the wealth of knowledge and skills that are transmitted from one generation to another.

“La Notte della Taranta” is Italy’s biggest music festival and one of Europe’s most important events dedicated to traditional culture. It takes place in Salento and is dedicated to the re-discovery and valorisation of Salento’s folk music and its fusion with other types of music – from world music to rock, from jazz to classical music.
